Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment consists of a series of custom-made aligners made from clear and comfortable plastic.

Unlike conventional braces, Invisalign doesn’t require metal brackets or wires. The plastic aligners can easily be inserted and removed for eating and brushing. However, you do need to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day.

What is the treatment process for Invisalign?

If your dentist determines that Invisalign is the right treatment for your goals, you’ll begin by getting a 3D scan of your teeth. This scan determines your personalized treatment plan and the development of the aligners at the Invisalign lab.

When the aligners arrive, your provider goes over how to wear them. Each aligner represents a different stage of your smile as your teeth gradually move into their ideal position. Your job is to wear them in the correct order for the right amount of time before switching to the next set.

The staff schedules regular checkups to make sure the aligners are doing their job and that you’re compliant with the therapy. These appointments take place every few weeks.

How long you wear the aligners depends on your treatment plan. Your Invisalign treatment could last anywhere from several months to a few years so that you can get the smile you want.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign provides you with the smile you desire without the pain and discomfort of braces.

Because you remove the aligners to eat and drink, there’s little restriction on the foods you can eat. You also remove the aligners for oral hygiene purposes, so you don’t have to worry about staining or decay that can develop in hard-to-reach places.

The aligners are clear and discrete, so people won’t notice you’re wearing them. Consequently, you don’t have to feel self-conscious or embarrassed about a mouth of metal braces.

Who is a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign is an excellent choice if you have mild to moderately crooked teeth or an overbite. However, more severe alignment issues may need to be addressed with traditional braces.

You can trust the team at Charles M. Marks, DDS & Dental Associates to determine the right treatment for you as you work to achieve the smile of your dreams.
